Will the ‘Sex and the City’ Reboot Work Without Samantha ?

If you have never seen “Sex and the City,” then you must have been living under a rock for the past 20 years. “Sex and The City” was a hit show back in the late 90s, and early 2000’s that followed four best friends lives through friendships, love, sex and the city. The show even turned into two movies that were box office hits.

It was announced earlier this week that the glamourous TV show was making a comeback on HBO Max for a 10-episode (and half hour) season with Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. I know I’m missing a pivotal name on that star-studded list. Samantha, who is played by Kim Cattrall in the show and movies, will not be returning.

The show’s comeback will continue with Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Charlotte York, played by Kristin Davis and Miranda Hobbes, played by Cynthia Nixon as they steer through love and friendships in their 50’s. Production for the show will begin in New York City, of course, in late spring.

Parker, Davis and Nixon will also executively produce the show alongside Michael Patrick King.

Every Sex and the City stan are wondering if the show could even happen without Samantha. Samantha put the ‘sex’ in “Sex and the City.” I understand that Carrie’s character is essential to the show, but Samantha’s is too. Samantha was unfiltered, Whitty, and always had the girl group into something adventurous.

Cattrall says she won’t partake in the show’s revival because of a previous public feud with co-star Parker. Samantha will truly be missed. I do not know if the show will have the same realistic vibe that it has had in the past. But I am excited to see my favorite show make a comeback.
