Today we have lost a Pioneer in luxury fashion. Someone who has paved the
way of many designers that are out today. Someone who has juggled
being creative director for both Fendi and Chanel and even running his
own Fashion house. The man I’m talking about is Karl Lagerfeld. Mr. Lagerfeld
died on Tuesday in Paris,France. His death was announced by Chanel on
Instagram :
“It is with deep sadness that the House of CHANEL announces the passing of Karl Lagerfeld, the Creative Director for the CHANEL Fashion House since 1983.
An extraordinary creative individual, Karl Lagerfeld reinvented the brand’s codes created by Gabrielle Chanel: the CHANEL jacket and suit, the little black dress, the precious tweeds, the two-tone shoes, the quilted handbags, the pearls and costume jewelry. Regarding Gabrielle Chanel, he said, “My job is not to do what she did, but what she would have done. The good thing about Chanel is it is an idea you can adapt to many things.” A prolific creative mind with endless imagination, Karl Lagerfeld explored many artistic horizons, including photography and short films. The House of CHANEL benefited from his talent for all the branding campaigns related to Fashion since 1987. Finally, one cannot refer to Karl Lagerfeld without mentioning his innate sense of repartee and self-mockery.……”
At a point in the 80s Karl was doing things that proved to all people that
he will be a legend in the fashion industry. He would produce 14 new and
different collection that would range from Couture to street wear each
year. This is not even counting collaborations. He was surely ahead of his time.
You would always see his designs on celebrities such as Rihanna, Princess Caroline
of Monaco, Christine Lagarde,
and many more. Me.Lagerfeld was also a photographer whose pictures
would be shown in exhibits such as the Pineacothéque de Paris.
Karl Lagerfeld was hired at Chanel when they were at the point of fading
out. But with the persistence and confidence he had in the brand, he transformed
it into a $4billion dollar fashion house.
He was continued to be labeled as an Genius and from his resume
he truly was.
He will forever be remembered in the fashion industry for everything he
has done. RIP Mr. Lagerfeld.
