Beautiful Chaos is What the Gucci Fall 2023 RTW Collection is.

Gucci fall 2023 ready to wear collection during fashion week

Beautiful chaos is the Gucci Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear collection debuted on Feb 24. Mixtures of color textures, fabrics, and styles graced the runway. The show was designed in collaboration with the Gucci Studio team. Gucci announced on Jan 28 that the fashion house had appointed Sabato De Sarno as Creative Director. Still, he’s set to debut his first collection with the brand in September during the spring/ summer 2024 season.

The Gucci design studio had its first task of designing a collection for Gucci during its Fall 2023 Menswear collection. But the team came back and better for the Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear womenswear collection. At first glance, the collection looks like there was no direct direction regarding an inspiration or theme. Instead, it exhibited an overwhelming amount of ideas mashed into one show. But it was something interesting to see.

According to Vogue Runway, the collection was held at a  Gucci Hub. The floors incorporated the Gucci green color that covers all their packaging. The middle of the runway had two circles where the audience could sit and watch the show. In the show notes, according to Vogue Runway, it’s said that the two sunken circles in the middle “represented the collaborative circularity at the heart of Gucci’s creative community.” Celebrities such as A$AP Rocky (who got the Gucci ‘G’ emblem braided into his hair, which was very dope of him to do,) Dakota Johnson, Julia Garner and more were in attendance.

Many consider this Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear collection a small offspring of the Gucci Tom Ford era that every fashion lover lives for. Not only did the show give Tom Ford for Gucci, but it also had some resemblances of Alessandro Michele – former Gucci Creative Director, touch on the collection.

The runway show opened up with a tiny, chained bra top with double Gs covering almost enough of the chest part. This piece was intended to give off the star power that the Gucci thong gave when it first debuted during the Spring/Summer 1997 collection. A long black silk ankle-length skirt and elbow-length gloves were paired with the chained bra to give it the necessary attention.

Faux fur, double-breasted coats, oversized suits, and the trend that continues to stay around were key hoes throughout this collection. The red Horsebit Gucci bag held like a clutch will be popular again in fashion. Like I always say, Vintage pieces, modernly reinvented, always come back in style. The bag was worn 11 times in black, red, crocodile tan and purple material, fluffy orange material, leather brown with a white and black strip, OG vintage Gucci print, and a rhinestone embellished look.

The keyhole or cutout trend was popular in this collection as well. It appeared as a skirt, trench coat, and dress. Not only were cutouts reigning supreme but also sheer clothing pieces. Sheer will be seen heavily in 2023, and Gucci is proving me right. A look that caught my eye the most would have to be the long button-down tube top suit. The suit combines streetwear with the corporate look invigoratingly.

All in all, the collection was fun, exciting and chaotic. There are a lot of individual pieces that will be “it” clothing items in fashion lovers’ closets. I’m excited to see what Sabato De Sarno will bring to the Gucci brand next fashion month.
