Fashion underwent a lot of changes at the end of 2022. One of these major changes was the Creative Director of Gucci, Alessandro Michele leaving the iconic fashion house. Since then, the Italian fashion house has had one fashion show without a creative director. On Jan. 28 the label released a statement that they have a new man in charge of Gucci.
Sabato De Sarno has now been appointed creative director of Gucci. The Italian born designer is a vet in the fashion industry. Before his newly appointed position at Gucci, De Sarno was on the Valentino team and before that, he began his career at Prada in 2005.
De Sarno will be head of the design studio and report to president and CEO of Gucci, Marco Bizzarri. “I am certain that through Sabato’s deep understanding and appreciation for Gucci’s unique legacy, he will lead our creative teams with a distinctive vision that will help write this exciting next chapter, reinforcing the House’s fashion authority while capitalizing on its rich heritage” Bizzarri said in a press release.
Even though Gucci has announced a new creative director, the world will not be able to see what De Sarno is capable of until September for the spring/ summer 2024 fashion show that will be held in Milan. “I am deeply honored to take on the role as Creative Director of Gucci. I am proud to join a House with such an extraordinary history and heritage, that over the years has been able to welcome and cherish values I believe in. I am touched and excited to contribute my creative vision for the brand” De Sarno said in a press release. Until then we wait to see what direction Gucci will go under the new creative director.
