2021 B.E.T. RED CARPET WORST AND BEST DRESSED LIST.

On June 27 the B.E.T. Awards were back and in full effect. In my household, the BET AWARDS was always a celebration. It was exciting for me because I loved seeing my favorite celebrities singing and rapping my favorite songs and also seeing what they would be wearing on the red carpet.

In the past, the B.E.T awards red carpet looks never gave what it was supposed to give. Very lackluster and looked as if celebrities threw something together real quick. I feel that most celebrities didn’t treat this award show like they would do the Oscars or the Grammys. But I don’t know, That’s how I feel.

But for the 2021 B.E.T. Awards, I paid extra close attention to what celebrities were going for and if the red carpet looks were executed right.

So with that being said, Let’s dive into these looks.

First, we are going to talk about my good sis Saweetie. So, The Icy Girl had two looks for the night. For the red carpet look, she went for this very revealing and draped Dolce and Gabbana gown (which was a recreation of the 2004 Dolce and Gabbana runway look worn by Naomi Campbell)  that showed the middle part of her torso, a massive part of her leg, and her back as well. The Dress also had a long and exaggerated train. The gown was then paired with strappy lace-up sandals. I feel that the lace-up heels did not complement the dress whatsoever. The dress was already a statement piece, and the shoes were not needed at all. A regular gold strappy heel preferably the Tom Ford padlock pointy naked heel would have been best. Saweetie’s next look which was for when she announced a winner for an award was mesmerizing. The 27-year-old Bay Area rapper stayed with the same designer and wore a ruby red bedazzled gown with a high slit and bustier-like top. Along with her red-carpet look, this gown was also a recreation of a past Dolce and Gabbana runway look from the 90s. The dress stones were so big and real that it was hard for Saweetie to walk out on stage. She paired the gown with some Bulgari jewels just like from her red-carpet look.  This look was perfect for Saweetie’s body type and looked great on the B.E.T stage. Also, Saweetie was styled by @Wilfordlenov on Instagram.

Now, yall Saweetie was not the only one wearing a look from the past. Zendaya, styled by my favorite Law Roach, wore a vintage Versace gown from their 2003 collection. The dress was also worn in a shorter version back in 2003 at the B.E.T awards by no other than Beyonce. It was only right that our sis Zendaya wore this look. Law Roach never misses when it comes to Zendaya. He always puts her in something fierce and whimsical. Zendaya’s look was probably one of my favorites of the night.

Taraji P Henson is next on our list. Ms. Henson was the host of the show and also pulled out quite a few looks that paid homage to figures such as Erykah Badu, Diana Ross, Betty Boop, and Tina Turner. She was styled by no other than Jason Bolden who is the king of Award show style. Taraji wore an Atelier Versace gown with simple black heels. The dress seemed as if it was a bodysuit that doubled as a corset around the torso area with glitter or a shimmer and then was paired with a draped skirt with the same print as the portion of the bodysuit. I love when Taraji wears subtle revealing gowns such as this one because it shows her youthfulness and how she can still rock any type of look thrown at her. It was a great red carpet look for the BET Awards.

A performance at the BET Awards that I was in love with was my girl, H.E.R. The singer sang a song from her new album that I’m obsessed with while also playing the drums in the air, yes y’all she was in the air playing the drums and also showed what she could do on the guitar. Even though her performance was everything, Her red carpet look wasn’t the best. I love H.E.R. but sometimes the red carpet looks are a miss. This look in particular was not my favorite. H.E.R was styled by @therealwourivice on Instagram. She wore an Armani blazer and bottoms and Stuart Weitzman heels. I’m always here for a sparkly and black blazer, but the pants just did not go. It made the rest of the outfit look cheap and not put together. If she would have paired the blazer with matching pants it would have looked a lot cleaner and chic.

Not only did @Therealwourivice style H.E.R but he also styled Andra Day the actress who plays Billie Holiday in The United States vs Billie Holiday movie. Ms. Day wore a gown by Rosie Assoulin that was a plush pink and had white flower embroidery all over the dress. I think this dress matched the singer/actress’s aura and aesthetic and looked pretty good on her. In the future though, I would like to see more from her something that matches her vibe but also very eye-catching. Even though this look was cute it wasn’t gravitating.

Next, we have Ciara in Alexandre Vauthier’s spring 2021 couture. Let me tell yall, at first I was not a fan of the look. I don’t know what it was or why I didn’t like it. I don’t know if it was the hair or the bedazzled boots paired with the bedazzled suit. But, when I saw the look on stage during the award ceremony, I liked it a little more. I think it was the way the lights were flashing on it. It looked a little more seamless and well put together. By the way, she was styled by Maeve Reiliy.

Ciara wasn’t the only one to go for an in-your-face type of look. Sevyn Streeter popped up on the red carpet in a La Roxx custom look and styled by Deonte Nash. The look consisted of a deep v skirt, Chris Cross halter top (which is the new summer trend), head wrap, and sleeves that all had the same sparkly fabric. This look reminded me of some early 2000s, Destiny Childs, Y2K aesthetic which I am living for, especially on Black women. I think she came, she delivered and served for yesterday’s event.

Megan Thee Stallion had a huge night with winning two awards, performing twice, and also giving looks but not on the red carpet. I know, that may have been a little harsh but y’all. I love Megan Thee Stallion so much, she represents my body type in such an amazing way, produces poppin’ music, and is so influential, but this red carpet look didn’t give. The rapper wore a custom Jean Paul Gaultier gown. The gown had a high slight that showed both sides of her body and was draped in the middle of her body. I feel like Megan should be wearing something that is body con like something that shows her shape but in a classy way. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t the best. I need a little bit more from her as well. She looked beautiful though.

Flo Milli, a rising female rapper that usually goes unnoticed in the rapping world. But in all honestly, she is better than half of the rappers that we praise today. AND THAT’S TRUE TEA. Flo Mili is usually colorful and flashy when it comes to her style but tonight, she held back and I am confused as to why. Like I said in the beginning it seemed that in the past celebrities did not care and would put on anything for the B.E.T Awards and it feels that that was what Flo Milli did. She wore a Natalia Dener python print dress and some Rene Caovilla heels. Flo Milli gave her usual personality on the carpet, but it just didn’t show with her look. I don’t know if this was her first red carpet or what and just wanted to play it safe, but more was needed so these people can wake up and see that she’s next up in this rap game (and that’s on period sis.) And by the way, she was styled by @msjtyson on Instagram.

Next, we have Ms. Cardi B performing with the rap group, Migos in a custom Dolce and Gabbana embellished jumpsuit styled by Kollin Carter. Cardi also revealed her pregnancy with baby number 2. The jumpsuit left a clear opening to show off her belly and it was too cute. The rapper gave it her all in her performance and it was so dope. I liked the look on her and sometimes tight looks on pregnant women don’t always look right, but with this one, looked amazing.

The last person we are going to talk about is Our Film Queen, Issa Rae who popped out on the red carpet in Balmain Spring Summer 2021 Ready To Wear styled by Jason Rembert. The blazer dress had very accentuated shoulder pads, which Balmain is known for, and it also featured the re-visited 1945 Monogram that the fashion house has been bringing back for their newest collections. Overall she looked great, chic, and classy.
