Today marked the day of freedom from the shackles this country has been on for the last four years under a president, who shall not be named in this magazine. The 2021 Inauguration was commenced with high spirits and positivity that will lead our country forward rather than backward. President Joe Biden gave a compelling address to the nation that gave the American people peace of mind and hope for a better tomorrow.
Along with the greatness and poise that was demonstrated at the Inauguration, the Fashion was even better. Monochromatic looks played a key factor in the 2021 inauguration. Vice-President, Kamala Harris who is this nation’s first female and first Black and South Asian vice president, stepped out and popped out in a perfectly tailored full look by the 2020 CFDA American Emerging Designer of the Year, Christopher John Rogers. Harris was then accessorized with pearls by Puerto Rican-American designer Wilfredo Rosado.
Our new first lady, Dr. Jill Biden, presented herself in a matching blue coat and dress by Markarian, a small New York City brand whose usual style consists of feather trims and many sequins. There has been a lot of talk on the fashion scene on how Dr. Biden will bring back the status quo of fashionable First Ladies. And we at Dope Fashion-Sense are eager to see.
Our forever First Lady (My Queen), Michelle Obama’s style has been so different (in a magnificent way) since her husband, President Barack Obama, last served his presidency. Ms. Obama gives looks all the time, and today she proved that her fashion choices are unmatched. Meredith Koop, Ms. Obama’s stylist, styled her in a Sergio Hudson coat, sweater, pants and belt. The outfit was then completed with some Stuart Weitzman boots.
From the looks of this Inauguration, I know that Dr. Biden and Vice-President Harris’s fashions will be immaculate and bold. I cannot wait to see it!
