MY VIEW ON THE AMAZON SHOW, “MAKING THE CUT” ! IS IT THE NEW ‘IT’ FASHION SHOW ?!?!

Ever since I was little, I have been in love with shows and movies that were centered around fashion. Fashion has literally been something I have loved to watch for years.

While being on Quarantine I have literally watched every movie and binged watch every show. Since “Project Runway’s” latest season ended, I have picked up on this new Amazon series called “Making The Cut”. The show comes on every Friday and is usually the highlight of my week.

The host of the show consist of ex hosts from the hit fashion competiton show “Project Runway”, Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn. The judges that look over the designers looks are world-renowned fashion insiders that are all truly inspirations to me. The judges consist of Naomi Campbell, Nicole Richie, Carine Roitfeld, Joseph Altuzarra, Chiara Ferrgani, and along with the host Heidi Kulm. When I first started the show I was expecting it to be like “Project Runway” and that’s due to the fact that they had the same hosts (the hosts before Christian Siriano and Karlie Kloss) , but I was totally wrong. The show really allows the designers to express themselves and really show the type of woman they design for.

The designers on the show, are not required to have the ability to sew. This was different and so unexpected in a fashion design competition show. But on the other hand this is a good thing implemented in the show because some of the most famous and respected fashion designers do not have advanced skills in sewing or even know how to sew. The designers each have their own seamstress that sews and or puts their looks together after the designer has left notes and patterns for them at the end of the work day. All of the designers on the show already have established brands. They are not beginner designers, some of them have been in the fashion industry for years. An aspect that I truly enjoy in the show would have to be the fact that they don’t have a time limit when they are buying fabric. They have unlimited access to fabric and fabric stores. I know that being on a time limit can cause unnecessary stress and cause someone to forget something or not get the right thing that they need. At then end of the contest the winner receives $1 million dollars to finance their brand for the better. Yes, i said it, $1 MILLION !

The show is big time and let me tell you why. Each episode, the designers are set in different places that are big in fashion. One episode they are in New York and the next they are in Paris. Now they are in Tokyo displaying their fashion abilities. Each fashion show is in a beautiful and astounding location that further brings the designers looks to life. Each elimination is not dramatic or takes up a majority of the show. They cut a designer as fast as they brought them onto the show. The critiques are blunt and straight to the point. The judges are not playing around. If they like your look then they like it, if they dont, they just dont. In each challenge of the show, the designers are to construct a Couture or “runway look” and an “accessible look”. When a designer wins a challenge, their accessible look gets to be sold on Amazon. The only thing about this is that whenever I go on Amazon to purchase the look, they never have enough. It seems like they always sell out so quickly. Another thing that is a burden with them selling the winning looks on Amazon, is that they do not come in a variety of sizes which leaves some women to lose out on the opportunity in purchasing the amazing look.

My favorite designer on the show is Megan. Megan’s fashion label expresses “strength, confidence, and unapologetic femininity”. Her looks really express the type of designer she is and the type of woman she designs for. When I see her looks, I see a part of my mom and I. We both love a sophisticated and strong look that stops people and make them look. Her design aesthetic is everything that embodies a Dope Fashion girl.

The new show “Making the Cut” is going to be the new fashion design contest show that allows designers to fully express themselves. I cant wait to watch this Friday!
