Birkin bags are the holy grail of all bags. They are so iconic and prestige. At a point in time for many years, Birkin bags were the rarest bags to find. This one Fashion reseller is to be said to sell over $60 million worth of Birkin bags alone. Just imagine how much more money they made reselling other luxury brands.
Luca Solca, senior analyst for luxury goods at Bernstein says that there about a million Birkin bags on the market right now. A few years ago this would be a much more lower number.
I mean that’s good for a bag that used to be something you only seen on the most famous people in the world, but some are asking will this now put a devaluation on the bag ?
In a way it probably could put a devaluation on the bag because if many people have the bag, people reselling would now probably start to set the price low. You only set prices high on a product if its super hard to find, but if the bag is on every resell site with an abundant of quantity then the bags price could go down significantly.
When it was hard to get the Birkin bag, Hermes would never give up a secret on how to take one of these bags home with you.
The brand even had a wait list at a point in time, but that didn’t grant people their wishes of owning the bag all the time because the wait list got unmanageable due to so many people getting their name on the list.
Honestly the word rare in the fashion industry is a word that cant be used so loosely anymore. That is because of the growing numbers of fashion resale sites that run online and even on Instagram accounts. The era of dreaming to be able to get an Birkin bag is at an end.
